3 Stretches of South Texas Sand
Boca Chica Beach, South Padre Island, and Padre Island National Seashore offer a variety of fishing options.

Up and down the Texas coast, summer draws anglers to the beachfront. Casting plugs and spoons into the summer surf for speckled trout is as much a Texas tradition as tubing the Guadalupe or slow smoking brisket. At least that’s true along the Middle and Upper Texas coasts.
Along the Lower Texas Coast, there isn’t nearly as much fishing pressure along the tideline. This is quite ironic, considering the area located between the Rio Grande River to just above the Port Mansfield cut offers anglers some of the most consistent surf fishing conditions, with calm, clear beachfront waters being the norm during the summer months. Not only that, but these waters also offer anglers perhaps the widest variety of species found anywhere along the Gulf Coast.
Anglers who enjoy fishing the beachfront with light-tackle would be well served to take a trip to South Texas this summer. Those who do head to points along the South Texas Coast will find the Lower Coast beachfront is basically broken into three segments: Boca Chica Beach, South Padre Island, and the southern end of the Padre Island National Seashore.
