About the July 2017 Cover
Most know the Gulf of Mexico is a large, virtually featureless bowl with little to naturally attract and hold bait as well as pelagic species. However, what regularly occurs are the long lines of sargassum that makes its way north across the Gulf. These lines as well as discarded flotsam are prime targets for offshore anglers to troll, drift and fish.
This month’s cover art is by renowned marine artist Don Ray and has captured a scene that every offshore angler looks forward to encountering. His “Weedline Buffet” depicts the shade, cover and hidden bait that attracts dorado, ling kingfish, wahoo, billfish and more. Plus a bull dolphin is feasting upon the inhabitants.
The forecast for the movement of sargassum in 2017 is for large quantities to move across the Gulf to be deposited on our beachfront. On the way they will provide many memories that fish the deep blue.
