About the June 2026 Cover
This month begins the summer of family times on the water. Schools are out, vacation time is available and there are fish to be caught – especially on the coast.
With warmer water temperatures and aggressively feeding coastal gamefish many anglers willingly wade-wet in pursuit of speckled trout, redfish, flounder and black drum. Some will access likely or favorite areas by wading into the water from shore. Others will use a boat to access even more remote areas they will shuffle along and catch fish.
Popular Texas artist Calvin Carter has provided this month’s cover art entitled “Like Father, Like Son.” During this month when we celebrate the Dads that take time to pass on time honored traditions, this painting stimulates memories of those times.
While the “Like Son” acknowledges the history of the father/son relationship, in today’s world it could just as easily be “Like Daughter.” Parents and family members that serve as mentors and over time become cherished fishing buddies is applicable for any parent or adult and child relationship.
In this cover art one has to imagine there is a little competition going on. It seems at this point with one fish being landed while another is being fought the family competition is pretty evenly matched. Only at the end of the day will it be known between the two of them if the skills passed on and learned, and if these shared times will continue. Smart money bets they will.
