About the March 2022 Cover

Like many similar scenes that are scattered across the Lone Star State, small water ponds attract young anglers as grandparents, other family members and friends introduce the next generation to fishing.   It was at a similar spot where popular Texas wildlife, sporting and western artist Calvin Carter began his fishing career.

“This was a commission for a client that filled a commission request from a client and also reminded me of me and my cousins, both male and female fishing on a small pond and getting our start catching bream and bass,” Carter said.  “It didn’t make any difference whether it was boys or girls, it was just kids having fun around the water with someone older taking the lead.”

The  22 x 30 inch watercolor certainly is the perfect painting for the March 2022 issue as a variety of opportunities are chronicled on ways of getting kids started catching fish.  It was obviously a special place as evident by the sign incorporated into the scene by the cabin door — “Gramp’s Camp.”For more information on this painting and other fine works of art or commissions by Calvin Carter, visit www.calvincarterart.com, email mcalvincarter@yahoo.com or call (409) 201-6685. — Bill L.
