Palo Duro Canyon State Park Completes Joint Construction Project with the Texas Department of Transportation

CANYON— A new camping area with amenities and a series of bridges across flash-flooding hazards on park roadways at Palo Duro Canyon State Park were unveiled Thursday morning during an event highlighting completion of a joint project between the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).

The new Juniper camp loop features 20 rebuilt campsites, a group camp area, an indoor group hall and comfort stations with bathrooms and showers. In addition, six bridges were constructed over water crossings on Palo Duro Canyon’s main roadway to enhance park visitor safety by providing access to higher ground areas of the park during flash flooding events.

Palo Duro Canyon State Park covers 27,173 acres in Randall and Armstrong Counties. For more information about camping at the park, call 806-488-2227.
