Scrappy Nearshore Specks
Strong, thick shouldered, feisty speckled trout stack up in Texas and Louisiana’s Gulf waters all summer long.

Speckled trout caught from Gulf of Mexico waters appear to exhibit more strength than those found inside Texas’ and Louisiana’s estuaries. Some anglers would even consider them downright mean. Pound for pound they just seem to put up more of a sporting fight and their bone crushing strikes point towards their heightened aggression.
As the summer months get underway, nearshore structures become prime locations to target beefed up Gulf specks. This pattern will continue to intensify as the summer heats up and weather conditions stabilize allowing anglers to safely navigate these areas more consistently.
Arguably the two best locations for Texas salts to run out and chase speckled trout in Gulf waters are from Calcasieu Lake in southwest Louisiana or Sabine Lake in southeast Texas. From the beachfront and jetties, on out to the short rigs the action is heating up as quickly as the summertime temperatures.
