TPWD Sets Public Scoping Meetings to Gather Input on Oyster Mariculture
AUSTIN– The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) is seeking public input on the draft proposed rules for the Texas cultivated oyster mariculture program.
Under House Bill 1300, the Texas Legislature has directed the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission to develop rules that would allow the commercial production of oysters within in Texas coastal waters. The proposed rules aim to establish application and siting procedures and operational requirements for seed, nursery and grow-out facilities using floating or suspended cages within the water column in Texas coastal waters.
Scoping meetings are being held on the coast for the public to attend to voice their opinions and ask questions about this new program in Texas.
