About February 2014 Cover
The late legendary Texas “treasure,” artist John P. “Jack” Cowan’s “Upwind, Downwind” is a fitting scene for the February cover of TEXAS OUTDOORS JOURNAL. As hunting seasons wind down, there is still the opportunity for upland bird hunters to pursue a variety of gamebirds across the Lone Star State.
The painting’s title is certainly appropriate as crafty upland birds like bobwhite quail will take advantage of any breeze that may blow to dip a wing and dart past, over, or around a hunter when they flush. Beside native bobwhite quail, imported gamebirds will also humble the most experienced wingshooter.
