About the October 2024 Cover

“Turn To November”

Hunting seasons continue to increase as does the intensity or at the very least anticipation of pursuing big game.  While October is known as the month for archery hunters, it won’t be long before rifle hunters will get in on the action as the calendar makes a “Turn To November,” this month’s cover art title by popular Texas wildlife and sporting artist Brian Grimm.

This month bowhunters and those out preseason scouting white-tail deer will see bachelor groups having broken up, bucks marking their territory and starting to check for receptive doe.  Toward the end of the month full on early rutting activity will occur in parts of the Lone Star State.

Each passing day moves the calendar closer to the general white-tail deer season opener statewide on November 2.  Bucks seeking receptive does as the excitement and focus of deer and hunters increase.  It is a special, even magical time to experience and witness the fall changes.  Cooling weather, a return to time in sync with a watch, plus observing all facets of the deer breeding season.
