Official Media Statement: Missing Elderly Woman at Enchanted Rock State Natural Area

May 20, 1:30 P.M. — The missing woman was located around 9:30 a.m. and pronounced deceased by the Justice of the Peace. Our thoughts are with the woman’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.

The Texas State Park Police will be taking the lead on the investigation.

May 20, 7 A.M. — The search for a missing 81-year-old woman at Enchanted Rock State Natural Area continues this morning. She became lost on the Loop Trail around 3 p.m., Tuesday, May 19.

Texas State Park Police Officers, Enchanted Rock State Natural Area staff, Texas Game Wardens, Willow City Volunteer Fire and Rescue, Fredericksburg Fire/EMS and other regional first responders searched for the missing woman until after dark when significant storms moved into the area, making it unsafe to continue.

Texas Parks and Wildlife Department staff remained on site late into the night to attempt aerial searches, but weather continued to hinder efforts. Local, non-essential resources were released ahead of the storm last night but relieved staff this morning to continue the search.

Efforts continue to locate the missing woman this morning.

May 19, 11:30 P.M. — Texas State Park Police Officers, Enchanted Rock State Natural Area staff, Texas Game Wardens, Willow City Volunteer Fire and Rescue, Fredericksburg Fire/EMS and other regional first responders are searching for an 81-year-old woman who became lost on the Loop Trail at Enchanted Rock State Natural Area around 3 p.m., Tuesday, May 19.

Crews searched for the missing woman until after dark when significant storms moved into the area, making it unsafe to continue.

Texas Parks and Wildlife Department staff remain on site overnight and will continue searching as weather allows. Local, non-essential resources have been released ahead of the storm but will relieve staff in the morning and continue the search.
