About The August 2023 Cover

Distinguished artist Jocelyn Beatty’s paintings have been displayed across the county at some of the most prestigious shows held.  This conservationist travels both the North American and South American continent gathering reference material of wildlife in their natural habitat.

This month’s cover art by Beatty is entitled “Close Encounter.”  It is the perfect painting depicting a whitetail doe being refreshed from the heat of summer at some watering hole.

Water is the gathering place for whitetail deer and other wildlife that many times provides a chance close encounter.  Alert, but not alarmed the doe is at the water for one reason to hydrate herself before slipping away, back to where she has come.

During the heat of summer, early and late times at rivers, streams, lakes, stock tanks or any water resource is a great place to observe whitetail deer.  It provides the opportunity for a visual glimpse of the state of the deer herd wildlife stewards cherish.
