What a special time for this young hunter.  Deer season is open and he is hunting on his own from a homemade ladder stand.

So many things go through the minds of hunters — from the time they get to their stand, sit in the chill of the dark pre-dawn air and witness the arrival of a new day.  As time passes a variety of animals and birds may reveal themselves as a distraction.

However, on this day the youngster’s focus is on a whitetail deer.  And it’s not just any deer but it is “Old Drop Tine.”

Popular and renowned artist R.J. McDonald has captured this special event in this month’s cover art, entitled “Old Drop Tine.”  From their own experiences, hunters of all ages that view this painting can “fill in the details”.  For this deer hunter not only is it a buck, but it’s a special monarch that has probably earned a special reputation over the years.  Now it’s presenting an opportunity of his young life for this hunter.
