About The December 2025 Cover

‘Tis the Season for so many sights, sounds, smells and activities of this time.  It is what children anticipate, when adults reminisce of their youth and makes Christians bow their heads to give Thanks.

We are once again fortunate to showcase on this month’s cover the talented artwork by widely-favorite artist Ralph McDonald.  His waterfowl scenes have been recognized and revered by Ducks Unlimited and collectors world-wide.  His seasonal outdoor paintings depict girls and boys afield participating in a variety of outdoor activities.

However, when it comes to December McDonald’s Santa scenes may be the most appropriate.  Within the painting there always seems to be subtle images, suggestions and in the case of “The Special Gift” words penned by the artist for his Christmas card series that tells this story best.

The “special gift” you will agree is not the ones piled ‘round the tree.

It couldn’t be a child’s delight when first he sees this festive sight:

Nor the Christmas turkey piping hot and the glistening snow it is not.

A Holy Child in a crib of hay was “The Special Gift” on Christmas Day.
