About the February 2025 Cover
“Spring Trophy,” by Calvin Carter
There are many years like the one we have just started when winter is more spring-like and within a few days the chilly reality returns. Then there are spring months that can be down-right balmy only to be blown and frozen off the water.
That thought might cross one’s mind when view “Spring Trophy,” by widely popular Texas artist Calvin Carter. “What was it really like on that day?” More Winter, or truly Spring?
Regardless late Winter and early Spring there are die-hard saltwater grinders out trying to catch that big, oversized, yellow-mouthed sow speckled trout. That once in a lifetime hookup.
There is another bit of irony in Carter’s cover art. While the primary prey pursued is a speckled trout the “always available” redfish is there too. Just in case, as a bonus, or as another trophy.
Coastal anglers are ready as the realization of “Spring Trophy” is nearly here. The only way to know when it truly arrives is to be out there – getting’ after ‘em.
