About the June 2017 Cover
Chance Yarbrough’s commissioned painting of three generation of anglers wading the area behind Mustang Island near Shamrock Cove is a most appropriate piece of art for June. Warm summer waters, active trout and redfish working shorelines plus time spent with family or friends depicts coastal fishing during what is most often agreed as the best month of the year for speckled trout.
Wading affords special opportunities to literally feel the bay floor for fish holding irregularities or structure. It is an intimate encounter when much can be learned when in the water. Spreading out in a “skirmish line” allows anglers to fish in fairly close proximity to each other — enjoying successes and offering good nature ribbing when skills are bested by the quarry.
