September 1 and Texas fields have been busy with camo-clad hunters in pursuit of limits of dove.  Hunting seasons have officially arrived.  Soon rewards from the field will come in the form of tasty bacon wrapped morsels of dove breasts, cream cheese plus a slice of jalapeño grilled over a bed of glowing mesquite coals.

However, before the treats are sampled there are countless sights and memories that will have been made around the iconic windmill.  This water resources is the magnet that draws in a variety of game and non-game animals.  All to quinch their thirst around the water drawn to the surface from below ground.

Native Texas artist Calvin Carter has grown up with these scenes and continues to hone his God given artistic talents.  The attention to detail as the traditional hunt is told in the painting “Sunset Serenade” captures so much of the action and activity drawn to the windmill that brings water from a subterranean aquifer to the surface.

Dove are flying fast past the windmill while a covey of bobwhites pick up grit for their craw.  In the surrounding brush there are probably some unseen antlered trophies awaiting for the spectacular last-light sky to turn dark.

This is one of those painting that will captivate observations with countless minutes that turn to endless hours of other past times or those that still await.  This is one of those special places and traditions.
