AMARILLO – Between July 29 and 30, Texas Game Wardens coordinated patrol efforts to detect off-highway vehicle violations and recover stolen vehicles near the Canadian River in Potter County.

Along with Amarillo-area game wardens, sergeant investigators with the specialized Marine Theft Investigation Unit patrolled areas of the river popular among off-highway vehicle enthusiasts. Together, teams investigated various types of off-highway vehicles, including utility task vehicles and all-terrain vehicles, to assess whether they had been stolen or tampered with in violation of Texas state law.

The sizeable patrol efforts resulted in two seizures of stolen equipment totaling about $7,700, along with 22 off-highway vehicle violation citations, 12 violation warnings and three arrests. The charges in the arrests included felony possession of a controlled substance, driving while intoxicated and outstanding warrants.

“I am very grateful for the efforts made by the Marine Theft Investigation Unit Game Wardens and the interagency coordination teamwork with the Potter County Sheriff’s Office, Potter County Fire and Emergency Medical Services, and National Park Service who contributed to the success of this initiative by ensuring the safety of recreators and fellow first responders,” said Potter County Game Warden Ryan S. Hunter.
