A few truly unique Texas saltwater fishing trips that should be added to every angler’s 2017 bucket list.
As yet another new year gets underway, inshore anglers across the Lone Star State are undoubtedly having visions of great days on the water in the 12 months that lay ahead. Texas certainly offers a myriad of inshore angling options throughout the year. However, while every fishermen has their favorite trip, destination, target species and time of year, there are a few truly unique saltwater fishing trips found along the Texas coast at various times of the year that should be added to every angler’s bucket list. With that in mind, here are a few suggestions for trips every serious saltwater angler must take in 2017….
Snook Fishing in South Padre
A series of warm winters have allowed snook to temporarily expand their range in Texas to the point that hooking a snook in the Coastal Bend Region doesn’t even much raise an eyebrow any more. However, the center of Texas snook fishing is still in the South Padre/Port Isabel area and anglers serious about landing a Lone Star State linesider should consider this a “must take trip.” This is a year around fishery, with spring probably being the weakest of the seasons (which frees up anglers for some of other “must take” trips listed below). Winter finds most of the snook up the Brownsville Ship Channel. During fall they are thick on the flats, while during summer they are found in the Brazos Santiago Pass, surf, and South Bay.
